The four components of the counseling program are:
- Guidance
- The school counselor teaches guidance to every student in the school and enables students to learn life skills. Each grade receives guidance every other week on a set day. Kindergarten receives a lesson every week. Please check the guidance page to view the schedule. Topics can include listening skills, feelings, bullying, test anxiety, career exploration, self esteem, conflict resolution, etc.
- Responsive Services
- Small group and individual counseling falls under responsive services. There are many ways a student can be referred--teacher referral, parent referral, or student referral. These services can either be preventive or remedial. Consultation with parents and staff is a vital element of responsive services.
- Individual Planning
- Individual planning helps students to create and monitor their own educational and career plans. This involves creating smart goals during guidance or small group, middle school transition, career days, and meeting with students that are struggling academically.
- System Support
- Involves supporting everyone-students, parents, staff, and community while ensuring the counseling program is successful. Also, this includes promoting the program, being a member of the CAC, and staff development.
